SilkWeb began as a collaboration between Laurel Silk and Michael Shaw. They came together through their work at various universities in Arizona and founded an e-learning company named SilkWeb to focus on the growing need for custom e-learning course solutions.
Dr. Michael T Shaw, PhD
CEO
Dr. Shaw is the Chief Executive Officer at SilkWeb Consulting & Development. He provides day-to-day operational leadership and is directly accountable for overall strategic direction and success of instructional and curriculum design organization. He oversees SilkWeb's teams including marketing and sales, ID and curriculum development, video development, content writers, and support staff. Dr. Shaw actively collaborates with stakeholders; effectively communicates and leads curricula design; develops key learning solutions. He is responsible for overall marketing strategy and promotional products, and client sales. Dr. Shaw is skilled at providing a wide range of curriculum services including all aspects of e-learning development, instructional design, lesson plans, program design, 2D and 3D animations, storyboarding, PowerPoint presentations, and case studies. He is a proficient user of Articulate Storyline 360 Suite, Adobe Captivate, and is an expert in Moodle, Canvas, and Blackboard content development and integration.
Laurel Silk, MAEd
President
Ms. Silk has been in the higher education industry for over 20 years and primarily has worked in online adult education. She spent several years as a faculty member teaching English 101 and 102 as well as World Literature online. Ms. Silk has extensive experience working in Blackboard Learn, Ultra, Canvas, and Moodle. She co-founded SilkWeb with her business partner in 2006 and since then has grown the company into a multi-million dollar business and built a strong reputation for SilkWeb amongst the top colleges and academic publishers in the United States. Ms. Silk is fluent in instructional design and adult learning modalities and has worked with public and private institutions to formulate academic programs in Nursing, Business Administration, and Education. She leads the instructional design and development team at SilkWeb and provides day-to-day supervision of all large institutional projects. Ms. Silk is skilled at Camtasia, Final Cut Pro, Vyond, and is an expert in Blackboard and Canvas.
